A VERY BUSY TIME FOR THE CLUB ON THE RACING FRONT

Last week was another busy time on the racing front.

Saturday was the day of the Mullaghmore sea based sprint triathlon where Lisa Dalton put her injury plagued season behind her finishing third woman and twenty third overall. Ronan Dorrian finished eighth overall and second in his category. There were also good performances from Shane Mc Nulty, Ben George, Kevin Hennessy(second in his category), Kathleen Mc Nulty and Sinead Trearty .In the try a tri also held in Mullaghmore Ita Mc Gettigan was third overall with Natasha Kelly fifth overall. There were also good performances from Labhoise Maguire, Linda Sweeney and Fiona Temple.

There were three races in Derry on Sunday morning. First swimmers were in the water at 6.50 a.m. Danny Mooney in his first year as a triathlete did very well in the elite men’s race finishing seventeenth behind Rio bound Bryan Keane. This was Danny’s first draft legal race and he swam cycled and ran very well. He then raced in the 1500 metre Northern Ireland track and field championship in the afternoon finishing second.

 

In the elite women’s race the club had four entrants racing along with Olympian Aileen Reid.Siobhan Gallagher was a very credible 11th , Triona Mc Menamin 12th and Orla Fogarty 18th

In the age grouper race a few members showed signs of the race being their first race of the season.There were a few debutants who all acquitted themselves well in this city based sprint triathlon.

In non triathlon events Cathy Harvey ran well in the half marathon in Moville.

In the open water Channel Cup swim in Sligo Lester Speer made his open water swim debut finishing in a time of 19.56 in the 1450 metre swim . Karen Crawford still has bragging rights in the house finishing in 16.24 and third in her category.

In the 5 k circuit there were a number of pbs from Convoy and good performances also in the Loughside five k especially from Billy Black , Sharon Black and Martin Donnelly.

In Galway this coming weekend there are a large number of club members taking part in the challenge series with races from try a tri up to Full Iron Man distance

Wednesday : Aura Pool – Swim session 8.00 pm
Thursday : Foxhall TT or Brick 6.30pm
Saturday : Aura club cycle 8.00 am
Sunday : Aura beginners cycle 9.00 am
