This weekend has been one of the busiest so far this year with 72 club members- almost half of the club competing in events over the weekend!

Margaret Kelly Chattanooga World Championships Fund Raising Duathlon this Sunday!
Preparations are well under way for this Sunday’s duathlon. We hope to see as many members as possible compete in this event to show our support for Margaret on her great achievement of competing at the World Championships in Chattanooga, Tennessee on 9th September.

The sprint distance-3.2km run – 16km Bike – 3.2km run- triathlon will take place on Sunday 27th August from St Eunan’s GAA grounds. This event is open to everyone, no TI licence is required, relay teams are welcome and donation on the day is the fee for the event.

Saturday 26th August 2017:
Registration Opens – 5:30pm – 7pm – Aura Leisure Centre (beat the queues on Sunday morning and register on Saturday evening).
Sunday 27th August 2017:
Registration Opens – 7:30am – 8:30am – Aura Leisure Centre
Transition Opens – 7:30am – O’Donnell Park
Transition Closes – 8:40am – O’Donnell Park
Race Briefing – 8:45am – O’Donnell Park
Race Start – 9am – O’Donnell Park
Presentations – 12noon – Aura Leisure Centre
There will be refreshments served after the race in Aura Leisure Centre.

Ironman Dublin 70.3
Eighteen of our club members took on the Dublin Ironman 70.3 on Sunday with each one of them putting in excellent performances. Athletes completed a one lap sea in Scotsman’s Bay, Dun Laoghaire, south of the city and a 90km single loop bike course from Dun Laoghaire, north along the coast and through the city centre of Dublin before returning to Phoenix Park for the 3 loop half marathon run course that finished on Chesterfield Avenue.
Gavin Crawford was the first 24/7 member to cross the line in a very impressive 4:31:11, Gavin placing 11th in a hugely competitive 35-39 category. Emma McGee was the first club female to finish. Emma completing her first 70.3 in a superb time of 5:13:39 placing her 4th in her age category and 26th female overall. Paul Dillon, despite having an accident and a further puncture on the bike course still finished in an excellent time of 5:16:32. Patrick McNulty finished in 5:19:54, Liam Tinney in 5:23:47 and Paul O’Gara just a few minutes later in 5:26:50. Alaistair Hetherington on his 70.3 debut finished in an excellent time of 5:35:08. Bronagh O’Gara, the clubs only other female to take on the 70.3 event finished in 5:42:12.
Patrick Mitchell, continuing his excellent national series form was 3rd in the M60-64 category finishing in 5:44:03. Seamus Morrison finished in 5:54:07, Graham Parker despite suffering an injury in the last few weeks finished in 5:57:53. Paul McNulty crossed the line in 6:02:16. Killian Nulty also suffered a puncture on the bike course but managed to cross the line in 06:04:04. Keith Fletcher and Paul Kelly, on their 70.3 debuts finished in 06:08:07 and 6:25:52 respectively. Sean McAuliffe crossed the line in 07:13:34.
Anthony Delap was part of Team “The 3 Mamils” which finished in 4:51:12, placing them 6th team overall. Gavin Harris also completed the event as a team along with Arthur Mc Mahon in a time of 5:36:43.

Donegal Marathon
Clint Doherty completed the Donegal Marathon on Sunday in an excellent time of 3:18:14.

Donegal Half Marathon
There was also an excellent 24/7 representation at the Half Marathon event, with fourteen members taking on the 13.1miles, all with excellent times. Michael Black was the first 24/7 member home in a time of 1:17:35. Michael Logue, Peter O’Donnell, Anthony Sweeney, Pol Mac Giolla Bride, Pat Brady, Adrian Callaghan running with the double buggy, Paul Kelly, Johnny Duffy, Michael Russell, our MC extraordinaire Stephen Sweeney, Aidan McFadden,Fionnuala Larkin and Brian Gallagher all completed the event. Special mention to Fionnuala Larkin on her half marathon debut. Full results below.

Gartan Swim
Gartan Open Water swimmers held their Annual Gartan swim on Saturday in very tough and challenging conditions. There were 3 course options- 750m, 1500m and a 3.8km course. A huge number of 24/7 members took part and indeed each of the events were won by a club member.
Sinead O’Kane was 1st in the 750m swim in a time of 13:27, Jonathan Martin was 1st in the 1500m swim in 20:21and Eadaoin Kelly won the 3.8km swim in 1:00:28. Well done to our juniors on such great achievements, the future is certainly bright for these talented athletes. Congratulations to everyone who took on the event in such tough conditions, there were great times from everyone who took part, too many to mention, full results are attached.

Portnoo Aquathon Challenge
Well done to Sinead Diver on completing the Portnoo Aquathon over the weekend. The event consisted of a 1km open water swim in choppy conditions at Narin followed by a 5k beach run.

5k roundup
In the Manor 5k Keith Gordon finished in 20:32, Philip Browne ran the 5k with his son in 24:26 and Georgina McCrudden finished in 28:22.

Junior Success
Well done to junior member Billy Black on his great performance representing Donegal U13-15 at the national duathlon championships held in Dublin over the weekend.
U14 Club member Ciaran McGettigan recently competed in the Errigal International Youth Tour. Over 220 riders competed over the four stages in three days. Ciaran lost a couple of minutes on stage one but finished 18th overall with his best race being Stage 3, the famous three laps Up Keelogues climb, where Ciaran finished 5th.

Congratulations is extended to club members Sammy and Suzanne Bogan on the birth of their baby boy.

Club Training Update
Monday 28th August will be the last Club Open Water Swim Sessions at Gartan.

Thursday 24th August is the last of the Summer Brick/TT sessions. Long Run Thursdays will then return from 31st August leaving from Aura at 6.30pm.

Saturday Swim sessions will also break for a few months- This Saturday 26th August will be the last swim session. If demand is there for this session, we will look at recommencing these in the Winter months.
