National Series Reports :
National Duathlon Series
To be eligible for a national ranking a triathlete had to take part in three National Series races , one of which had to be the National Championship. The locations of the races meant not many members took part as with the exception of our own Duathlon all involved significant journeys.
Gavin Crawford was the best of the club 14th overall and 3rd in his age group. Jonathan Edwards was next best finishing 27th and 9th in his age group. Finishing the eligible athletes was Cathal Roarty 40th overall and 2nd in his age group. Jack Brennan and John Conaghan , were well placed to do well but had mechanical issues at the National Championship race, held in Mondello Co.Kildare.
There were however fine individual performances from Aidan Callaghan, Danny Mooney, Padraic Mc Cafferty, Shane Mc Nulty, Adrian Callaghan, Paul Doherty, Liam Tinney, Gerard Kelly, Seamus Morisson , Killian Nulty and Paul Dillon.
Four women took part in at least one race and they all raced well. Lisa Dalton, Margaret Kelly , Sharon Black and Siobhan Gallagher all did great in the races they took part in
National Triathlon series
To be eligible for a ranking you had to take part in four National Series races and at least one had to be an Olympic race and one a Sprint race. It is fair to say that the more senior members were not focused on National series races this year as they were concentrating on longer races. Five men and one woman got an overall ranking. Most races again involved early starts and travelling.
John Conaghan was to the fore finishing 57th overall and 1st in his category. There were also fine performances overall from Martin Donnelly, Eugene Mc Gettigan and Donagh O’Sullivan.
Fin Begley was the best female athlete finishing 36th overall and 6th in her category .
In 2016 the club have applied for a national series duathlon race and a national series Olympic race.
Race directors for the three club races provisionally are Clara Quigley (Olympic Duathlon), Paul Dillon (pool based Super sprint Triathlon) and lake based Olympic Triathlon Liam Tinney.
Letterkenny Athletics Club have offered club members the opportunity to train with their club . This also facilitates the casual use of downstairs Shower facilities at Aura and also the opportunity to race cross country . Contact any committee member for details.

He is well used to the hills but the heat is proving problematic. We will all be following avidly his progress at this great event this weekend.
