The club hosted a very successful 9th Sprint Triathlon in the idyllic surroundings of Gartan Lough last Saturday. Once again the club has been inundated with nothing but praise for another brilliantly organized 24/7 race. Alot of hard work has gone on behind the scenes by our main and race committees in preparation for our Gartan race, but Club Chairman and Race Director Liam Tinney speaking after the race reiterated that our successful races cannot be run without the support of the whole club. To all members and family and friends who helped out in any way and to all club competitors who put on hi-viz and gave a helping hand after talking part- THANK YOU!
Conditions were perfect for racing on the day. Sean McLaughlin from Northwest Tri Club was the winner in a fantastic time of 1:10:45, not much separated himself and 2nd place Danny Quigley coming into T2 with Sean putting in a super 5k time of 18:37 to clinch 1st place. Danny was 2nd out of the water in an impressive 11:59 and held onto 2nd place overall to cross the finish line in 1:11:24. Spencer Leckie was 3rd to exit the water but put in the quickest solo bike split of the day, 37:37. He couldn’t hold that lead but held on to finish in 3rd place in a time of 1:12:01. In the woman’s race Anne Paul was 1st place. In a tightly fought race it was all to play for coming into T2 with very little separating the top 3 ladies. Anne Paul pulled away on the 5k run and finished in a superb 1:22:35. In 2nd place was Kerry McGrillen, QUB Tri Club, in 1:23:50. Just 40seconds separated Kerry and our very own Anne Robinson who had an outstanding race.
