Kids Duathlon

 

 

Letterkenny 24/7 Triathlon club are pleased to announce the date for upcoming Kids Duathlon event. 

The aim of the kid’s duathlon is to encourage young people to get active and take part in this ever-growing sport with the emphasis on FUN! (this will not be a timed event and is all about fun)

There will be club appointed marshals on all sections of the course including the Cycle Transition areas to help all those taking part.

Date:    Friday 29th March 2019 @ 5pm

Venue: O’Donnell Park, St Eunans GAA, Letterkenny.

Note Car Parking will be at Aura Leisure Centre

The Event

This is our first ever Kids Duathlon event. This event encourages young people to get active and take part in this ever growing sport. Join hundreds of kids taking part in the 247 Letterkenny Kids Duathlon where they will run, bike & run all within the O’Donnell Park GAA grounds. The course is spectator friendly for supporting family and friends and a fun and relaxed atmosphere is guaranteed.

There will be club appointed marshals on all sections of the course including the Cycle Transition areas to help all those taking part.

Logistics
Run 1 will be at the Start / Finish gantry on the grass
Once they have completed Run 1 the children will get their bikes from the Cycle Transition. They must put on their helmet before moving their bike.
They will walk or run to the cycle mount line.
They can only get onto their bike once they have crossed the cycle mount line.
Once they have completed their allocated laps on the bike course, they go back to the cycle transition area.
The children must dismount their bikes before the dismount line
They must rack their bike before taking off their helmet.
Then complete their allocated laps on Run 2 before going down the finish line at the Finish Gantry. 

Kids Duathlon Course
The run course will all be on grass
The bike course will be on tarmac/hard stones**

Rules
Children must be able to cycle unassisted and should be competent at handling their bike on corners.
Helmets must be worn at all times during the bike section and should be put and securely fastened as soon as the child enters transition and should not be unfastened until the bike has been put back a transition

Equipment.
Child must provide their own bike and it should be in good condition.**
Front and rear brakes must be working. This will be checked before being allowed to rack your bike in transition.

** Note road bikes (ie racer type bikes) with thin tyres would not be suitable for this course
