MURPHY COMPETES IN WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP RACE AND CLUB HOLD SUCCESSFUL AQUATHON

General Pride of place this week goes to Brendan Murphy who took part as an elite Duathlete in the World Championship race in Aviles in Spain where he raced against the top duathletes in the World in the standard distance race. The winning time of 1.42.18 shows that it was a world class field.

The club had a very successful Aquathon on Friday the 4th June. There were three races, a junior race, an intermediate race, and a senior race. The event was organized by Paul Doherty and he excelled himself in his attention to detail. The main race involved a 750 metre swim in Gartan Lough followed by a 5 k run around the Gartan estate. It was followed by refreshments and prize giving in the boat house. We are fortunate in Donegal to have such a facility open to the public and we extend again our thanks to Gartan Outdoor and education centre for the use of this wonderful facility. There were sixteen children in the junior race eleven adults in the short race and forty four adults in the main race. Full results are on the club website page Races.

The nature of triathlon is such that club members take part in many different events. We had members taking part in Ras Dun na ngall and other members taking part in the long distance swimming compettion in Sligo. Closer to home we had a father and son go head to head in the Letterkenny Gaels 5k. Karen Crawford was second female in a time of 15.42 in the 1k swim in Rosses Point on Sunday. Gavin Harris and Eugene McGettigan acquitted themselves well in the three day cycling event based in Ardara ran by four masters cycling club. The race finished at the top of Glengesh in 24 degrees Celsius heat. Junior member Michel Sweeney finished just behind his father Brian . We expect him to beat his father before his 10th birthday and then move on to a more serious challenge.
