EXCITING YEAR AHEAD FOR 24/7

Week 1 of 2017 is done and dusted and a great foundation of training has already been laid down by club members with all club training session’s buzzing with enthusiastic triathletes looking to get stuck in for the season ahead.

The clubs race committees have also been busy finalizing plans for the year ahead and the following dates have been confirmed:

Letterkenny National Series Sprint Duathlon
The 2017 Letterkenny Sprint Duathlon will take place on Sunday 26th February. Sponsored by The Kitchen this race is part of the National Series of races. This race is a super flat and fast course.The race will consist of a 3.2k, 18k cycle, and a repeat of the 3.2k run. Registration will take place at Aura Leisure Centre Letterkenny on Saturday 25th from 5pm-7pm and on the morning of the race from 7:30am-9am. Race briefing will be at 09:10am with the race starting at 09:40am sharp.

The entry fee for both individual and relay teams is 25, with a special early bird price of 20 for all entries received prior to January 31st. Sign up to the event on Facebook to keep up to date will all information and upcoming competitions for a free entry!

Letterkenny Try a tri and Super Sprint Triathlon
The ever popular Try a tri makes a return to the 24/7 race calendar on Sunday 23rd April 2017.This is a brilliant event for anyone who wants to get a taste of the triathlon world. Entries for the try a tri are only open to those who have not taken part in a triathlon before. The distances are a 200m swim, 13k cycle, 3.5k run.There will also be a Super Sprint event comprising of a 400m swim, 13k cycle and 3.5k run- the perfect warm up for the triathlon season. Registration will take place at Aura Leisure Centre Letterkenny on Saturday 22nd April from 6.30pm-8pm and on the morning of the race from 7:30am-9am. Race briefing will be at 09:10am with the race starting at 09:40am sharp.

Gartan Sprint and Standard Triathlon 2017
This sees the 7th year of the Letterkenny 24/7 Triathlon Club hosting of the Letterkenny triathlon based in the spectacular grounds of the Gartan Estate on Saturday 1st July.No other race in the North West boosts such scenic beauty, for the competitors to marvel as they takeon the either the Sprint or Olympic distance races. This race has something for everyone with a sheltered lake swim, a challenging bike course followed by a run through the Gartan estate on a quietcountry road which will be a flat course this year for both distances.Due to the race location we will be limiting race numbers for both the Sprint and Olympic distances and would advise athletes to get entered as soon as possible once the online entry system opens,

through the Triathlon Ireland website. More details will be released shortly.

Michael Murphy’s 3k/5k New Year Fun Run
LAC in association with Michael Murphy Sports hosted a 3k/5k run on Sunday 7th January and several 24/7 members took part. Following on from his third pllace in the Raphoe New Year’s Day 5k Gavin Crawford finished 3rd in a time of 17:03, with Aidan Callaghan just behind in 17:25- Aidan obviously enjoying a wee bit too much turkey this Christmas!!Natasha Kelly started her 2017 season with a 2nd place position in the 3k distance in an impressive time of 11:49.  Well done to everyone who took part. It was great to see 24/7 well represented so early in the

season.

2017 Club Membership
The club would like to remind members that 2017 Triathlon Ireland membership is now overdue and you must be a club member to take part in any club training sessions. Membership can be renewed through the Triathlon Ireland website.

Club Training
Club training continues as follows:
Tuesday: Track session- 7.45pm
Wednesday: Swim session- Advanced 7-8pm, Intermediate/ Beginners 8-9pm
Thursday: Long Run session leaves from Aura at 6.30pm
Saturday: Club cycle leaves from Aura at 9am
Sunday: Turbo Sessions at Speer Performance 9am

New members are always welcome and all new members can take part in 3 coaching sessions before having to become a club member.
