September 11 Update: Mullaghmore, Pulse Beach Tri, GaelForce Swim …

The season is drawing to an end quickly and, more often than not, Mullaghmore is the triathlon that 24/7ers opt to sign off for the year. Well, the 24/7ers that filled out their entry application correctly anyhow (more on this later).

For those who did manage to enter properly this was a nice end to their season of hard work. Peter O’Donnell claimed (another) podium in 2023 with a 3rd place overall finish in a time of 1:07:17. Mark McGinley kept the pressure on him the whole way and came storming across the line just 20 seconds behind in fourth place with a time of 1:07:37. Mark was also first in his age category.

Not to be outdone, Noelle Parker claimed first position in her age category with a time of 1:25:53. Martin Donnelly was also 3rd in his age category.Well done everyone!

Conor McLaughlin claimed victory over the shorter swim distance witb a time of 1:10:00. Congratulations Conor!

There were also strong performances from Matthew McKinley, Brendan McBride, Kilian Nulty, Suzie Bogan, John Harkin, Christy Callaghan and Keith Fletcher. All in all, this was a great turnout from 24/7, well done everyone and we await the final points from the North West Series to be totted up to see how we faired as a club.

Mullaghmore Triathlon Results:
3. Peter O’Donnell 1:07:17
4. Mark McGinley 1:07:37
19. Mark Gallagher 1:14:46
29. Matthew McKinley 1:17:39
41. Martin Donnelly 1:20:08
54. Brendan McBride 1:22:32
58. Kilian Nulty 1:23:25
79. Noelle Parker 1:25:53
108. Suzie Bogan 1:31:34
119. John Harkin 1:33:44
125. Christy Callaghan 1:34:44

And while Mullaghmore heralded the end of the season for most 24/7ers, a number thought they had entered until they checked the registration list to discover that they had not clicked ‘confirm’ on their actual entry, or something similar … we await a full explanation Mervyn McDowell and Paddy Doherty!

Thankfully, they were accommodated at the Pulse Beach Tri, due in no small part to Mervyn’s years of good service to that club. Sadly the morning came and they were greeted by extremely foggy weather. The swim was cancelled and the triathlon became a duathlon which saw Mervyn finish in 29th place with a time of 1:07:06 and Paddy in 77th with a time of 1:12:10.

Elsewhere Kieran Fox completed the Gaelforce 2km swim at Killary in a time of 38.05. He crossed the finish line in an impressive 22nd place. Nice one, Kieran!
