Tri Athy, James McManus, VI Half Gasteiz …

24/7 had a healthy representation at Tri Athy thi sweekend. Five club members made the trip to County Kildare. Paddy Doherty, Mervyn McDowell, Alastair Hetherington, Philip Browne, and Terence Quinn all made the trip.

Paddy Doherty placed 65th overall, 16th in his age category in this extremely popular event. Things didn’t go right for Mervyn on the day and, despite battling through the swim and bike, he called it quits early in the run.

Philip Browne continued his preparation for Ironman Wales with a strong performance along with Alastair not far behind him. Terence finished 8th in his category but was less fortunate on the road home when he had to call the pit crew to change his flat tyre!

Mervyn McDowell DNF (completed swim and bike)

Meanwhile Kathryn McBrearty tackled the course at the James McManus Triathlon in Cavan. Kathryn ripped through the course in fine style, her hard work in training paying off. She finished with a superb time of 1:39:42.

Further afield, Yasmina Lazaro was competing int he VI Half Gasteiz in the Garaio natural park near in the Garaio natural park in northern Spain. Yasmina put in an outstanding performance after picking up a few knocks early in her swim, clocking an overall time of 5:56:56 in 34th position.

This week’s training schedule as follows:

Monday 6.30pm: Open Water Swimming cancelled this week.

Tuesday 6.30pm/7pm: Running Session. Session will be posted in WhatsApp group on Tuesday and members can arrange to meet that evening.

Wednesday 7pm-8pm: Lane swimming at the Aura. Online booking/paying available on https://letterkenny247.com/.

Thursday 6.30pm-7.30pm: TT/Brick Session at Foxhall. First bike away at 6/45pm sharp. Marshalls: Gavin Ward & Erik Graham Parker – please arrange a swap yourself if you can’t make it.

Saturday: Two groups for club cycle 8am and 8.30am. 8am group will be 3hrs plus averaging from 26-28kph and faster if you think you’re able. Routes will be posted in advance.

8.30am group, route will be decided when everyone turns up so we can see numbers and abilities. Most recent cycle was 90mins average speed 20 to 24kph.

Sunday: Long run or long bike TBC. Transition practice will be incorporated in the weeks leading up to races.
